sundays are special days

brad and i got home pretty late on saturday and went to bed even later. so naturally, when our alarms went off in the morning to awaken us from our sleep and get our butts to church, we turned them off in our stupor and went back to sleep. unfortunately we teach a sunday school class and so we had to get up for that. those two hours that we teach are the most stressful two hours of my week. we are in charge of teaching the gospel to about eight nine- and ten-year-old girls who refuse to listen to us. we have tried bribes, threats, treats and pleadings but nothing seems to work. i know that these girls come from families that may not be financially stable, but i still think their families can spend more time with them teaching them to be socially competent. it is really sad when you can tell within minutes of meeting them which ones do not get enough attention from their fathers (they are the ones who cling to Brad's legs everytime they see him), the ones who do not get any discipline at home (they are the ones who will not do anything you tell them to do) and the ones who are well loved and actually get attention at home (they are more willing to listen and obey).
so here we are at church in our sunday school class trying to calm the girls down so i can teach them about how to receive a testimony of the book of mormon when one girl hits another girl upside the head for no apparent reason. i felt like i was back at my sister's house looking after her seven-year-old. i was so mad that i wanted to hit the girl (that would make a great example, eh?). i don't understand why these girls act the way they do. i remember being in primary, and while i liked to talk a lot, i do not remember being disciplined as much as we have to discipline these girls. they are always complaining about something that there is no way to please them. i don't know how much longer i can do this. i try to fulfill my calling, but this is really stressful. the primary leaders said that at the end of the year the bishop will interview us and see how we are doing and if we want another calling, and oh how i do! but how do you tell that to the man who put you there in the first place? i would feel guilty, like i am shirking my duties. i just hope that he is "inspired" to move us to another class, or even better, another calling all together.
