sunday, july 15

our late night fireworks display really did us in; we didn't wake up till 11:30 this morning and had to rush to check out by noon. whoops.

we got to the train station and i got our tickets sorted out for a train to florence. we ate lunch, then boarded the train. the ride was long and uneventful. i caught up on my journaling, and took a little nap.
the train from venice to florence stops at a station called rafizi, and you have to buy tickets and board another train to get in to the santa maria novella station, which is in florence proper. we disembarked, i got the tickets (and helped about 5 other people get theirs too), and we were on our way. finally, after much travel by train and foot, we found ourselves in florence.
our welcoming party.

we got a taxi to our hotel, and relaxed for a bit before going out again to get some dinner. we ate at a little restaurant called "ma so'" which i am referencing here so that the next time i am in florence, i can go back. it was super yummy. i had the penne: good olive oil, fresh basil, fresh tomatoes, yummy food. paula and roger both ordered a pizza and i watched the guy in the back toss the dough.

after dinner we walked to the arno river. in the picture below, there is a guy sitting in the middle of that...thing (dam? bridge?). if you look closely, you can see that he is fishing.

i love this graffiti tag.

we walked to this bridge and watched the sun set over the arno river.
as i was sitting on the bridge looking at the sunset and the water, i felt like i could just fall into the water. i imagine that it would feel like the sensation of falling asleep: more like floating than falling. it was so peaceful and relaxing and beautiful.

I love your posts!! But a little confused as to why in the world they had fireworks... and how you knew about it to get your awesome seats.
