ice ice baby

yesterday i got home at about 12:30pm and was hanging out, when i realized that it was really cold in our house. not surprising since it had been raining/snowing/sleeting all morning and we turn down our thermostat when we leave. so i turned it back up and waited. didn't come on. turned it up a little higher and waited. didn't come on. so i fiddle with the thermostat a little bit and nothing happens. maybe the pilot light is out, so i go downstairs to check on it and find that our whole basement is flooded. the drain outside had been clogged with leaves, so instead of draining, it leaked into our house. i had to get out the shovel and shovel wet leaves out of the stairwell while it rained steadily upon my head. after that i didn't even care about the stupid furnace, i was cold, wet and tired and all i wanted was a shower.

when brad came home he figured out that the glow ignitor wasn't working. we hopped on over to home depot only to find that they didn't sell any, but fortunately we found a guy who had one for us. brad replaced the ignitor and the heater started working! it was glorious. our house got all the way up to 70 degrees before the heater stopped working again. this time we have no idea why it is not working, and it is 9:00pm., too late to call anybody. so we have to just deal with the cold. it sounds easier than it actually is; our house is currently 57 degrees, the perfect temperature to store wine.

i hate it. this morning i woke up terribly sick. i blame the cold (get it? a double entendre). i just hope we can find someone to come fix it, a new furnace costs about $1000 and i don't want to shell that out.
